Apply NowThe National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), formerly National Open School (name changed in 2002), is the board of education under the Union Government of India. It was established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India in 1989[2] to provide education to all segments of society under the motive to increase literacy and aimed forward for flexible learning. The NIOS is a national board that administers examinations for Secondary and Senior Secondary examinations similar to the CBSE and the CISCE. It also offers vocational courses after the high school. NIOS had a cumulative enrollment of about 1.5 million students from 2004 to 2009 at secondary and senior secondary levels and enrolls about 350,000 students annually which make it the largest open schooling system in the world.
OBJECTIVE
After going through this course, student will be able to:
- Acquaint with various categories of hotels;
- Acquaint with various departments of a hotel;
- Develop a sense of work ethics.
- Develop a pleasing manner while dealing with the customers.
NIOS offer the following courses:
- Catering Management (30 Seats)
- Hotel Front Office Operations (30 Seats)
- Housekeeping (30 Seats)
- Bakery & Confectionery (50 Seats)
JOB OPPORTUNITIES
- Wage employment: as a junior front level worker in any establishment.
COURSE DURATION
- 1yr the credit of can be transferred against any one academic course.
SCHEME OF STUDY
- Theory: 40%
- Practical: 60%
ENTRY LEVEL QUALIFICATION
- Education: class X pass
Examinations
The public examinations are held twice a year in April–May and October–November on dates fixed by the NIOS. However, one also eligible to appear through the On-Demand Examinations at Level and Senior Secondary level in those subjects only in which candidates have taken admission in NIOS for subject wise learning.[7] Results of the public examinations are announced usually six weeks after the last date of examinations.
Education Qualification
- Minimum Education required for Bakery & Confectionery is 8th.
- Minimum Education required for Hotel Front Office Operations is 10th
- Minimum Education required for Housekeeping is 10th.
- Minimum Education required for Catering Management is 10th.

Hotel Front Office Operations
Front desk is a very important department in the hotel, making direct contact with guests. The main function of this department is Reservation, Guest Service, Check-In, and Check –Out, Telephone, Finance and Cashiering, Foreign exchange, Room assignments, Inquiry etc.
Housekeeping
House Keeping is the management and the routine support activities of running and organized physical institution occupied or used by people. Mainly responsible for cleanliness and hygiene of various areas of hotels.
Bakery & Confectionery
Diploma in Bakery & Confectionery comprises internship, theoretical and practical study. In this one year of program students will learn confectionery and patisserie study.
